Archibald was a son of George McCRAVEY from Belfast, IRELAND or SCOTLAND. He was born April 17, 1741 in PA or VA.
He married first Frances Marie HEMBREE. He married Jane CATHCART {1769-1854] on September 16, 1793 in Spartanburg, SC per her affidavit filed with her widow's pension application in 1838.
Archibald was a Private, later Sgt. in the Revolutionary War serving in the 4th Regiment along NC Line #35892783. He applied for pension November 5, 1827 [W8424] while living in Spartanburg, SC. Jane McCrevy applied for widow's pension in 1846. She received a pension through March 4, 1854. The clerk of the Court of Spartanburg Dist., SC submitted an affidavit dtd July 24, 1846 that there was no marriage between Jane and Archibald recorded in Spartanburg Dist. Several affidavits were filed attesting to their marriage. Some PETTIT family information was included. Why and just what their connection is is unclear.
