Descendants of

Rev. Jacob CANTRELL
1781-1853
of Guilford Co., NC, Rockingham Co., NC, Gilmer Co., GA, Dawson Co., GA

Jacob Cantrell was born abt 1781 the son of Reuben CANTRELL..  On March 19, 1809 in Spartanburg Dist., SC, he married Elizabeth GILES.  She was born 1783 and her father's name was possibly John.  Jacob's brother, Samuel, married Mary Lou GILES in 1816.  Some researchers have said that Elizabeth was nee PIRKLE based on a North Carolina marriage record.  However, that was Jacob, Jr., a different Jacob.  Jacob who came to early Gilmer Co., GA was without question married to Elizabeth GILES from 1809 until his death per his pension and her widow's pension and bounty land military claim files.

Here's a brief list of the Jacob CANTRELL's known children:

* how she spelled her name on tombstone
** this is NOT the John that died in Italy, TX

While in Henderson Co., NC, he was ordained a Baptist Minister in 1830.  He first preached at Ebenezer Bapt Ch 1830-1834.  He was first minister of Crab Creek Bapt Church 1835-1839.  He moved in the 1840's to Gilmer Co., GA.

Jacob was the founding minister of Goshen Baptist Church which today is just over the Gilmer-Dawson county line off Hwy 52 near Kinard Corners on road going to Jasper, GA.  He died August 15, 1853 in Lumpkin Co., GA in that part that became known as the Gilmer Cutoff, Dawson Co. in 1857.  Elizabeth died 1874 in Pickens Co., GA while residing in her dtr, Louvica Cantrell Faucett's household which was just over the mountain from Goshen Church.  It is presumed that they are buried at this church but their graves are no longer marked.
