The following is a transcription by CATindell done in 2001 from a photocopy of the original record found at the Courthouse in Murphy, Cherokee Co., NC. This deed was recorded in Book 15, page 183. Sarah J. and Mary E. were siblings of Adolphus Brooks.

December 4th 1874
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS that I, Josephus BROOKS, bargained and sold a
certain tract or parcel of land for the sum of Two Hundred Dollars [$200.00]
paid in hand by Adolphus BROOKS have given and granted and by these presents do
give and grant unto Adolphus BROOKS a tract of land containing 135 acres lying
and being in the county of Cherokee, Section No. 93 in District No. 8, and
bounded as follows, viz:
Beginning at a white oak in a flat hollow; thence South West corner of 92 and runs West 175 poles to a large black oak in the line between this state and the State of Tennessee; then N. with said line 160 poles to a stake; thence East 175 poles to a black oak; then West 160 poles to the beginning.
TO HAVE and TO HOLD to said Adolphus BROOKS, his heirs and assigns forever with
all the appurtenances whatsoever.

The execution of the foregoing deed was the date hereof duly acknowledged before
me, Josephus BROOKES, the maker thereof for the purpose therein contained.
Therefore, let the said deed and this certificate be registered Book B page 214.
